A Night at the Opera

11th September 2017

Leyland Masonic Hall was the venue for the latest meeting of Philadelphia Lodge of Installed Mark Masters No. 1646

It was the first full meeting for WM John Dean but as the lodge only meets twice a year it was, somewhat curiously, also the one where he had to supervise the election of his replacement.
Bill Bruce and John Dean
The ballot proved in favour of Bill Bruce a Past Master of Aeon Mark Lodge No 1312 which also meets at Leyland. Motor cycle enthusiast Bill will be installed at the meeting in January.

The Brethren were then treated to a talk by lodge treasurer Tony Shaw entitled “Gilbert and Sullivan – The Musical Masons.” It was an interesting talk on an unusual subject and was very well received. It provided an insight into not only their Masonic careers but also the, sometimes strained, relationship between these two greats in the world of comic opera.
David Rotherham and Tony Shaw
Philadelphia Lodge is open to all installed Mark Masters and on the evening six new members successfully navigated the balloting procedure. The lodge provides a great opportunity for those who have gone through the chair to continue old acquaintances and make new friends from throughout the province. Secretary David Rotherham has all the details if you are considering joining.
